Oscar Allen has revealed his reasons for choosing Brisbane as the club he wants to join in free agency, as the outgoing West Coast captain gets set to watch the Lions play Geelong in Saturday's Grand Final.

Following the end of the Eagles' season, Allen informed the club's hierarchy of his plans to join Brisbane as a free agent.

West Coast have the option to match any bid for the 26-year-old, with a five-year deal reportedly on the table from Brisbane.

Speaking to 7News Perth at last night's Brownlow Medal ceremony, Allen said a fresh start was behind the move east.

"I think the culture of how a lot of people who move there have to move interstate...that's something that appealed to both of us (Allen and his fiance Lorna), being from Perth and living there our whole lives," Allen said.

"They've also had a proven record of recruits coming over and being able to play some consistent footy in guys that probably haven't had the best run with injury, like myself, (including) Lincoln McCarthy and Joe Daniher.

"I'm really excited and we're both excited to go over there to hopefully play some consistent footy.

"I still love everyone at West Coast...but we're looking forward to the next chapter."

Allen also said there are no hard feelings between himself and the Eagles hierarchy, while praising the club's head coach Andrew McQualter.

"They've all been terrific," he said.

"We were actually on the flight over with Andrew McQualter and I went for a coffee with him this morning.

"Me and Mini have a really strong relationship, as I do with all the boys.

"They understand this is kind of how the business of footy works, and they've been really supportive."
