Former Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin will join the Sydney Swans for the 2026 AFL season, after being announced as the club's new Director of Coaching & Performance.

Nearly six weeks since being sacked by the Demons, Goodwin will make the move north to work alongside Dean Cox and the Swans coaching staff.

Goodwin played 275 games for Adelaide across 14 seasons, before coaching Melbourne for nearly nine seasons, where he led the club to a drought breaking premiership in 2021.

The 48-year-old said he's looking forward to working with a club he has long admired.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining Sydney," Goodwin said via a club statement on Friday.

"I've always admired how the Swans work hard and take care of their people.

"Sydney is a club that has achieved sustained success, and I'm looking forward to helping continue that tradition by developing the coaches and players who will shape the club's future."

Swans General Manager Leon Cameron said the club is thrilled to bring Goodwin on board, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 campaign.

"We're really excited to welcome Simon to Sydney," Cameron said.

"He's a proven leader, a creative thinker, and someone who's passionate about helping our game grow, which is so important in the NSW market.

"A big part of Simon's job will be helping our coaches grow and develop, and we know his experience will be invaluable.
