Just weeks after Jeremy McGovern was forced into an early retirement due to concussion, his West Coast teammate Dom Sheed has called time on his career.

Sheed, 30, hasn't played all year after rupturing his ACL in February.

It capped off a cursed run of injuries for the smooth-moving left-footer, who had played just 24 senior games since the start of 2022.

While he finishes with 165 games to his name, he'll undoubtedly be best remembered for just one - the 2018 grand final.

The Western Australian was the the final link in the chain in one of modern football's most iconic passages of play, taking a mark deep in the forward pocket before slotting the goal from a tight angle in the dying minutes to complete an Eagles comeback and break Collingwood hearts.

One more time for good measure:

“It has been an absolute privilege to represent the West Coast Eagles, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity this great footy club gave a skinny kid from Kalgoorlie,” Sheed said.

“To play for the club I grew up supporting has been a dream come true, but the relationships you build and memories you share from footy are what I will cherish most from my time in the game.

“There are so many people I would like to thank for helping me along the journey, first and foremost my amazing family.

“It hasn’t always been easy. There’s been plenty of ups and downs, and to finish up without being able to play alongside the boys this year due to injury has been tough.”
