The Eagles have fought off stiff competition from Victorian rivals to retain the services of Harley Reid, with the gun midfielder signing a two-year contract extension through to the end of 2028.

The former number one draft pick was attracting big-money offers from his home state but has opted to stay put in the west.

Reid, 20, was contracted through to the end of next season with West Coast, but several clubs believed they would be able to lure him back to Victoria.

“I’m incredibly excited to sign on with this great club,” Reid said following the announcement of his new deal.

“Since the day I arrived in Perth, the West Coast Eagles members and fans have been so supportive of me and our team, and the future with our young squad is super exciting.

“Playing at Optus Stadium in front of our fans is an unbelievable experience and I love representing the club.

“The support from our coaches and my teammates has been amazing over the last two years, and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my game and helping the team climb back up the ladder.

“I can’t wait for the 2026 season and beyond to see what we can achieve together.”

A host of rival clubs were linked with moves for Reid, with St Kilda, Essendon, Melbourne and Hawthorn, among others, all mentioned as part of the rumour mill surrounding the young star.

It had been reported that Reid would likely be signing a deal, either with West Coast or another club, in the region of $2 million per season.

Reid has played 39 senior games since making his debut in round one last year, kicking 24 goals, including the 2024 Goal of the Year.

An ankle injury ended his campaign prematurely this season, but Reid's form prior meant he remained a hot property right up until he put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Eagles.

West Coast recruitment boss Matt Clarke spoke of the club's excitement in re-signing the talented on-baller.

“We are thrilled Harley has re-signed with the club until the end of 2028. It is a fantastic commitment to the build that we are undertaking both on and off the field,” Clarke said.

“Harley is a very important part of our future and has always displayed a great connection to our football club throughout the process.

“He embodies everything we want in a West Coast Eagle - skill, determination and a fierce competitive spirit.

“The future with Harley and his family on board with the West Coast Eagles is something that we feel will be very special.”
