Matildas team news

Tony Gustavsson used a strong starting XI for their clash with Czechia, and could potentially do the same on Sunday night.

The Matildas coach has emphasised his desire to use the Cup of Nations as a 'dress rehearsal' for July's World Cup, so it makes sense he would name another solid line-up against a top side like Spain.

Chelsea star Sam Kerr will likely be included again, along with Arsenal's Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord.

A brace from Hayley Raso against Czechia will make it difficult for her to be replaced, along with a dynamic Kyra Cooney-Cross.

Mackenzie Arnold - who started for the first time in 391 days - was strong between the sticks on Thursday night and should retain her position.

After replacing Aivi Luik at half-time against Czechia, debutant Clare Hunt could potentially earn a spot in the starting XI. The Western Sydney Wanderers defender kept a clean sheet and bagged an assist in 45 minutes.

Chloe Logarzo - who returned from a ruptured ACL last year - and Ellie Carpenter - who continues her return from a serious knee injury in France - have both not been named in the squad, so will not feature.

Matildas vs. Spain preview and prediction

Australia and Spain's clash is undoubtedly the headline match of this Cup of Nations tournament.

Ranked No. 12 and No. 7 in the FIFA rankings respectively, we should be in for a high-quality friendly.

However, due to a reported internal dispute, Spain have brought a weakened squad down under.

This did not stop them from winning their first match against Jamaica though, emerging 3-0 victors despite an unpolished performance.

Experienced midfielder Claudia Zornoza is set to be key again, along with Real Madrid teammate and striker Esther González.

Australia were also clunky in their match, but fortunately for the home nation that only lasted until half-time.

A Hayley Raso double guided the Matildas to a 4-0 winning over Czechia in their opening game.

Sam Kerr's leadership also shined, whilst debutant defender Clare Hunt was impressive off the bench.

Spain recorded a stunning 7-0 win the last time the two nations faced off, but it should be a closer affair on this occasion.

Prediction: 1-1 draw
