Seahawks vs. Cardinals final score, results: Sam Darnold leads game-winning drive to stave off Cardinals in 23-20 win image

JUMP TO:

The Seattle Seahawks began the 2025 season with a heartbreaking loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but since, they have rattled off three straight wins.

In Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks secured their first divisional win of the season, moving to 3-1. The Seahawks look like a real threat to win the NFC West, putting up at least 20 points in all three victories.

Facing an Arizona defense that entered the game giving up just 17 points per contest, quarterback Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offense put up 384 total yards. The Seattle defense forced two early interceptions on Kyler Murray, which allowed them to take an early lead that the Cardinals never managed to overcome.

The Cardinals made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter with two late touchdowns, including a score from Kyler Murray to Marvin Harrison Jr. and a passing touchdown to Emari Demercado. However, a crucial final-minute completion from Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba set up a Jason Myers 52-yard game-winning field goal. The duo had been quiet for most of the game, but connected four times for 79 yards — including two completions over 20 yards in the fourth quarter — by the time the clock hit zeroes.

Both teams entered the night with a 2-1 record, and it was Seattle that ultimately got the victory, its third in a row. Arizona drops to 2-2, losing its second straight game on a field goal as time expired.

The Sporting News followed all the action from a thrilling Thursday night matchup at State Farm Stadium. Check out all the action below.

Who won Thursday Night Football?

End of fourth quarter: Seahawks 23, Cardinals 20

11:17 p.m.: Seattle has walked into Arizona and will leave 3-1.

After the Darnold to Smith-Njigba long completion, the Seahawks decide to run the ball to move it closer. Then, they trot out Jason Meyers for a 52-yard game-winning field goal.

For the second straight week, the Cardinals lose on a field goal as time expires. It's Darnold's seventh game winning drive in the past two seasons.

11:13 p.m.: Darnold and Smith-Njigba didn't connect through three-and-a-half quarters, but since, the two have been on fire.

This time, Darnold hits Smith-Njigba on a similar route to the Harrison Jr. fade that happened on the last Cardinals drive. This one went for 22 yards, and the Seahawks are down to the Arizona 38.

11:10 p.m.: On the following kickoff, Ryland misses the landing zone and Seattle will start at its 40-yard line with 28 seconds left.

Seahawks 20, Cardinals 20

11:09 p.m. TOUCHDOWN: Arizona has climbed back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game.

Murray hits Emari Demercado right in front of the line of scrimmage, and the running back runs in for a seven-yard touchdown. The game is tied at 20 with less than a minute remaining.

Murray now has 200 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on the night.

11:08 p.m.: The Cardinals once again faced a third down on the drive, and it's Harrison Jr. who comes up big.

Murray hits him on a slot fade, and the Cardinals are inside the 10.

11:05 p.m.: Right out of the break, Murray hits Dortch on a left-side screen pass, and the receiver takes it 15 yards down to the Seattle 30.

11:01 p.m.: The Cardinals were facing a 4th and 4, and Murray throws a short out-route to Wilson, who notices the ball late and puts up only his right hand to catch it.

Wilson's acrobatic catch keeps the drive moving. On the following second down, Murray gets brought down for the third time tonight. Arizona will face a 3rd and long after the two minute warning.

10:56 p.m.: After the long completion, the Seahawks run the ball three consecutive times and barely move forward. Meyers comes out for a field goal attempt, looking to extend the lead to 10, but he misses wide right.

Meyers is 2-for-3 on the day and Arizona gets the ball back down a touchdown.

10:52 p.m.: On 3rd and 6, the Seahawks were facing a three-and-out, but Darnold hits Smith-Njigba down the right sideline for a 36-yard completion, their longest of the game.

Seattle keeps the drive going, moving inside the 40-yard line, with just under five minutes remaining.

Seahawks 20, Cardinals 13

10:47 p.m. TOUCHDOWN: The Cardinals score their first touchdown of the night, and it's no other than Marvin Harrison Jr.

The second-year wideout climbs the ladder over Witherspoon to catch the ball in the back-left corner of the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown. Harison Jr. looked relieved after the play as he celebrated. He had the earlier drop that led to an interception.

Arizona has cut the deficit to seven.

10:45 p.m.: Arizona is inside the 10-yard line after a second pass interference call on Woolen. Murray was targeting Xavier Weaver on the play, and the Cardinals have a 1st and goal from the nine-yard line.

10:43 p.m.: Needing to score, Arizona has moved across midfield.

Murray breaks the quarterback contain and is able to scramble all the way down to the Seattle 41 for 29 yards, the Cardinals' longest play of the game.

Seahawks 20, Cardinals 6

10:38 p.m. FIELD GOAL: After the Walker run, Seattle can't score a touchdown. A holding penalty brings a Charbonnet touchdown back, then Seattle moves zero yards on two plays.

A Meyers field goal adds onto the lead, but Seattle fails to extend it to a three-possession game.

10:33 p.m.: Walker is having a productive day, this time breaking loose on a 20-yard rush to get Seattle inside the 10.

The third-year back has 14 carries for 74 yards.

10:32 p.m.: The Darnold-Smith Njigba connection is heating up, this time over the middle of the field for 11 yards.

End of the third quarter: Seahawks 17, Cardinals 6

10:25 p.m.: Darnold and Smith-Njigba have their first completion of the day, with Darnold hitting the receiver on a 10-yard out route.

Going into the game, Smith-Njigba had at least five receptions and 96 yards in all three games.

Seahawks 17, Cardinals 6

10:20 p.m.: The Arizona offense once again faced a 3rd and long situation, but Murray throws an incompletion intended for Dortch. Ryland comes out to hit his second field goal of the game, this time from 57 yards.

The Cardinals for 3-11 on third down and have only 138 total yards.

10:18 p.m.: Murray and Harrison Jr. desperately needed a big play, and they get it. The quarterback hits Harrison Jr. for his second reception of the game on a back-shoulder fade for 16 yards down to the Seattle 32.

The next play, though, Murray is brought down by Josh Jobe for a seven-yard loss.

10:14 p.m.: Pinned deep in their own territory, the Seahawks gain only one yard before having to punt back to Arizona.

Smith-Njigba gets another touch, but not a reception. Arizona will start at the 35-yard line.

10:09 p.m: The Cardinals have a 3rd and 14, and once again, Murray is forced to throw it away.

The Cardinals offense, that has only 115 yards on the day, was booed off the field.

10:06 p.m.: In need of points, Murray throws one deep down the left side, intended for Wilson. The receiver is brought down by Tariq Woolen, and pass interference is called.

Arizona is across midfield.

Seahawks 17, Cardinals 3

10:01 p.m. FIELD GOAL: Seattle is able to drive inside the Arizona 40-yard line, but the offense stalls out after a first down sack.

Jason Meyers hits one from 44-yards out for his field goal of the game. Smith-Njigba, though he got a touch on the drive, is yet to have a reception in the game.

9:55 p.m.: After Darnold fumbles for a loss on the first play, a Jaxson-Smith Njigba end-around gets Seattle close to the chains.

Darnold connects with Barner on a play-action pass to keep the chains moving on third down.

9:53 p.m.: Arizona has kicked off and the second half is underway.

Seattle gets the ball first looking to add on to an 11-point lead.

9:45 p.m.: At halftime, Seattle is dominating on both sides of the ball. Two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing, have the Seahawks in the drivers seat with a 14-3 lead.

The Seahawks defense has given Kyler Murray plenty of difficulties. He is 14-for-23 for 83 yards and two interceptions.

Halftime: Seahawks 14, Cardinals 3

9:38 p.m.: The Cardinals were facing a 3rd and 10 in their own territory, but Murray hits Dortch on a screen pass and the receiver takes it 12 yards to keep the drive moving.

The next play, Murray is brought down by Leonard Williams for Seattle's second sack of the game. Arizona runs a few more plays before the clock runs out in the first half, as the Seahawks take a two-score lead into the locker room.

Seahawks 14, Cardinals 3

9:28 p.m. TOUCHDOWN: Darnold rolls left and the ball to Arroyo in the end zone, but the tight end is tackled by Cardinals safety Budda Baker, who is flagged for pass interference to move the ball down to the one.

The subsequent third down, Charbonnet takes the handoff and muscles it in for a one-yard touchdown. The Seahawks take a two-possession lead right before halftime.

9:23 p.m.: On the first play of the Seattle drive, Darnold rolls to his right and throws one up to Elijah Arroyo; the rookie tight end comes down with a 32-yard reception.

The next play, Darnold steps up in the pocket and runs for 24 yards. A 15-yard Zach Charbonnet run right after gets the Seahawks inside the 20 before the two minute warning.

9:20 p.m.: The Cardinals offense has stifled out of the gate.

Murray completes two passes for four yards before Michael Carter gets stuffed by the Seattle defense on 3rd and 2. The Cardinals are forced to punt for the third time.

9:16 p.m.: Campbell has his second big play of the game.

On a 3rd and 18, Darnold hits Charbonnet for a screen pass, but the veteran defensive end swallows him up immediately. Seattle is 1-for-4 on third down.

9:13 p.m.: Darnold almost connects with Horton for a deep touchdown on the first play of Seattle's drive, but the receiver can't hold on. On the next play, the quarterback responds immediately, hitting Jake Bobo over the middle of the field for a first down.

9:09 p.m.: The Cardinals brought the ball into the red zone, and Murray is able to find Harrison Jr. on an in-route on the right side of the field. But, the receiver has trouble holding onto the ball and it falls into the hands of Seattle's Ernest Jones IV, who returns it for 29 yards.

It's the second week where Harrison Jr. has a crucial drop, and this time, it results in a turnover. Murray has two interceptions in the first half.

9:06 p.m.: On a 3rd and 7, Murray hits McBride on the right side of the field to keep the chains moving. McBride gains seven yards on the catch.

Arizona will start at the 28-yard line.

8:58 p.m.: Cardinals' linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. went down on the field after a first down carry by Charbonnet.

End of the first quarter: Seahawks 7, Cardinals 3

8:50 p.m.: On second down, Murray gets brought down by Uchenna Nwosu for the first sack of the game, then right after, he's forced to scramble out of bounds. Time expires in the first quarter.

Arizona will be forced to punt for the second time.

Seahawks 7, Cardinals 3

It's Barner's second touchdown of the season and Darnold's fifth through the air.

8:45 p.m.: For the first time of the night, Darnold connects with Cooper Kupp. On third down, Darnold hits Kupp on a quick curl route to move the chains for Seattle, who is now inside the 20.

The Cardinals are in the red zone for the first time tonight.

8:29 p.m.: On second down, Murray makes an ill-advised throw which lands right in the hands of Seattle safety Coby Bryant, who did not have any receivers around him. Though, on the return, Bryant fumbles and Arizona recovers.

The Cardinals offense gets bailed out after Murrays' second interception of the season.

8:25 p.m.: Darnold connects with Tory Horton for the first time of the night on a 3rd and 10, and Horton runs it right near the line to gain. But, on fourth and 1, Seattle opts to hand it to Charbonnet for the first time of the night, and he is stuffed by the Cardinals defense.

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson will be photographers in Arizona.

7:35 p.m.: Sam Darnold and the Seahawks have taken the field.

Darnold has two touchdown passes in each of his past two games. Through three games, he has 663 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

7:10 p.m.: Players have started to take the field for warmups. This includes Cardinals' signal-caller Kyler Murray and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who are both dressed to match the Arizona sand theme.

Harrison Jr. has not had a great start to the 2025 season, capped off with a big drop in Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers. He hopes to bounce back tonight.

6:53 p.m.: Seattle has also announced its inactives for the Week 4 matchup against Arizona.

Zach Charbonnet, who was questionable throughout the week with a foot injury, is officially active.

6:50 p.m.: The Cardinals have officially posted their inactives for Thursday Night Football.

Most notable is Will Johnson, who Arizona selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, who is out with a groin injury.

6:42 p.m.: Expect celebrities in the house for a primetime matchup, and that includes Peter Herbstreit.

Peter, who accompanies Kirk on his broadcasting trips, has taken the field in Arizona.

Herbstreit is a color analyst for tonight's game, then will be traveling to Happy Valley, Pa. for ESPN's "College GameDay" on Saturday morning. Right after, he'll be going down to Athens, Ga. for a primetime kickoff between No. 17 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia. Kirk and Peter will travel over 4,200 miles.

6:41 p.m.: We're only a few hours away from kickoff, and State Farm Stadium looks different.

As part of the NFL's "rivalry uniforms" release, the Cardinals will be wearing their sand-colored uniforms. So, the field in Glendale had to match.

On the other side, Seattle will be wearing its traditional navy blue jerseys with "wolf grey" pants.
