Speaking to SEN on Tuesday morning, Mahoney said there had been plenty of discussions held with other clubs in regard to a trade with Melbourne for pick two, but said a Shuey trade wasn't one of these.
"He would definitely be the type of player (we would want)," said Mahoney.
"But West Coast have been very clear that he's very happy at West Coast and pretty settled so that won't be part of the deal.
"(So) yesterday was a lot about information gathering and speaking to all the clubs," he added.
"Obviously they know that pick two is available for the right deal and those suggesting potential deals with players and picks.
"Today is really about reviewing what happened yesterday, looking at each deal and making sure we go through the next steps."
Mahoney said Melbourne wouldn't be giving up the number two draft selection willy nilly.
"We had some information that we got yesterday about potential offers," he said.
"We still feel that clubs probably haven't told us everything that they're willing to give at this stage.
"We're happy to sit on it at the moment but also wary that pick two is obviously a very valuable pick and some quality players are out there.
"So if it comes to the point there's no deal that's good enough for pick two, we're happy to go to the draft with it, however we're certainly very open to dealing."
Mahoney confirmed the Dees are discussing a trade with Sydney for the coveted second draft pick, but said it didn't involve Nick Smith.
"No, Nick Smith hasn't come up," Mahoney said.
"We're talking to Sydney, they're obviously one of the clubs we're talking to for this deal and talking about a number of players. But Nick Smith hasn't come up at this stage."
