The Gold Coast will be desperate to avoid the wooden spoon and need to win this week, while also requiring a Knights loss. And the coach has made mass changes in his backline.

Keano Kini has been handed the No.1 jersey after being eased back into action during the past few weeks via the bench.

As a result of his inclusion from the start, AJ Brimson has shifted into the centres and has been joined by former Wallaby Carter Gordon, who will make his NRL debut.

Jojo Fifita has dropped out of the side due to a hamstring injury, while Jaylan De Groot has dropped to the reserves, with Brian Kelly moving to an unfamiliar position on the wing.

Phillip Sami was a late withdrawal in Round 26, with Tony Francis brought in as his replacement. The former has been named to return for this one.

Meanwhile, Cooper Bai has been added to the bench and the teenager will make his NRL debut off the pine.

UPDATE:

Sami has dropped out on the wing, with De Groot replacing him in a late change.
