NRL Judiciary Finals Week 1: Walsh fined, Carrigan hit with high tackle ban image

The Broncos' finals hopes are in the balance after their star fullback Reece Walsh was handed two separate charges for incidents in the 53rd minute of their dramatic golden point win over the Raiders.

Just three minutes later, Brisbane enforcer Patrick Carrigan was cited for a high tackle on Morgan Smithies.

Both men were put on report and sent to the sin bin, leaving Michael Maguire's side with 11 men on the field at one stage.

When the star duo returned, they sparked the Broncos' attack, inspiring a 16-point comeback that will go down as one of the greatest finals games in NRL history.

Walsh's antics result in two separate fines

Reece Walsh has been handed two separate judiciary charges after a heated 53rd minute clash with Raiders enforcer Hudson Young.

The Broncos fullback now faces a grade one striking charge as well as a grade one contrary conduct charge.

If Walsh chooses to accept early guilty pleas, he will escape suspension but be forced to pay fines totalling $4,800.

However, if he contests the striking charge for what resembled a head butt and is found guilty, he will instead serve a two-game suspension.

Brisbane fans will be hugely relieved that their electric playmaker remains available for their preliminary final.

Carrigan cited for high shot

Brisbane forward Patrick Carrigan has been cited by the Match Review Committee with a grade two careless high tackle on Morgan Smithies.

If he accepts the early guilty plea, Carrigan will automatically miss one crucial finals game for the Broncos.

Should he instead fight the charge and lose, his punishment will increase to a two-match suspension, effectively ending his season.

Without Carrigan's leadership, toughness, and defensive output, Brisbane loses vital balance despite Walsh being cleared to play.
