Payne Haas injury: Broncos forward limping in Canberra image

Broncos fans were left holding their breath as superstar front-rower Payne Haas limped his way to half-time in their qualifying final clash with Canberra.

Having been forced into an early off-season last year due to a Lisfranc injury, there will be plenty of interest in the big man's fitness following this latest issue.

Payne Haas injury updates

Shortly before half time in Canberra, Haas' right ankle was caught under him as Tom Starling attempted to wrestle the prop to the ground.

The Brisbane star was clearly struggling immediately, unable to put any weight on his feet before receiving medical attention.

In a potentially positive sign, Haas was able to stay on the field and made it to the half-time siren, eventually going into the sheds down 18-12.

It was a slightly unconventional first half for Haas, who spent 12 minutes on the interchange bench midway through the opening 40.

Haas returned for the second half, but the same couldn't be said for his forward teammate Brendan Piakura, who was ruled out with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

Down by 16 points and with 15 minutes on the clock, Haas finally came off, clearly still hampered by the injury.

The plans were then changed again, as the Broncos launched a stunning comeback, seeing Haas return to the field for the final minutes of regulation time.

Incredibly, Brisbane drew level thanks to an inspired 20-minute period from fullback Reece Walsh, meaning Haas had to plough through even more minutes on his dodgy ankle.

Eventually, the Queenslanders completed a remarkable comeback when Ben Hunt knocked over a field goal in golden point.

Broncos fans will dearly be hoping for good news on the injury front, with a fit Haas one of the keys to their premiership hopes.

While Walsh and Patrick Carrigan also face a nervous wait for the judiciary report, with both spending time in the sinbin during a drama-filled second half.
