Melbourne Storm playmaker Jonah Pezet proved his worth as an NRL number seven when thrust into the spotlight for week one of the 2025 finals against the Bulldogs.
Yet despite a man of the match performance it seems the talented 22-year-old’s future beyond this season remains very much uncertain.
Pezet is contracted to the Storm until 2029, however his manager Braith Anasta has confirmed a special contract clause means he is free to depart the club should he choose, following the re-signing of first-choice Storm number seven Jahrome Hughes in July.
“As it stands right now, technically he is off contract,” Anasta revealed on NRL 360.

“I had the clause in there with Jahrome, we have been looking for the one-year loan but we are not sure where this is going to land right now, it’s sort of up in the air,” Anasta added.
“(His preference) is to stay, but he is also a smart kid, Jahrome is the number seven and he’s just re-signed.
“We saw the other night how he (Pezet) plays as a number seven.”
With Jahrome Hughes racing the clock to return from a broken arm for the Storm’s home preliminary final against the Raiders or Sharks, it remains to be seen if, and how, Pezet will be used by coach Craig Bellamy for the remainder of the 2025 finals series with utility Tyran Wishart previously preferred when Hughes has been available for selection.
For his part, Pezet says he’s just staying ready for whatever happens next in 2025, while leaving dealings about 2026 to his manager, something he explained on NRL 360 when interviewed by a panel that included—you guessed it—his manager, Braith Anasta.
“I’ve always had full confidence in myself as an NRL halfback,’ Pezet said.
“I’m focused on the finals series for us, but I am an open book at the moment to any sort of loan deals or whatever that might be (for 2026).
“But as the man in the studio (Anasta) would know, that’s his job—my job is to play good footy and to give him the most amount of options that we can look forward to.”
