Cronulla will run out with an unchanged 17 for Saturday’s sudden-death semi-final against Canberra at GIO Stadium, but all eyes are on Tom Hazelton’s fitness as he pushes for a recall.

The hulking front-rower has been named in the extended squad as he continues his recovery from cellulitis in the knee.

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon stuck solid with the side that outmuscled the Roosters 20-10 last week, but Hazelton’s inclusion among the reserves signals he could yet be a late addition.

Fitzgibbon keeps faith with winning side

With Will Kennedy, Nicho Hynes and Blayke Brailey leading a settled line-up, Fitzgibbon resisted the temptation to tinker. Daniel Atkinson has been named 18th man, while Hazelton sits alongside Mawene Hiroti, Jayden Berrell and Hohepa Puru on the extended bench.

Kick-off is set for 7:50 pm on Saturday night, with the Sharks aiming to ride their momentum into the preliminary finals. Fans keen to be there can still secure tickets, with the clash broadcast live on Nine, 9Now, Foxtel and Kayo.

Whether Hazelton makes the cut will likely hinge on his progress in the final days of training.
