The curtain rises on the final act of tennis’s grand slam season, as the US Open gets underway on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

With Melbourne, Paris, and Wimbledon already in the history books, this is the last golden ticket for the sport’s elite to snag a major crown in 2025.

One of the biggest storylines belongs to Canada’s rising star Victoria Mboko. Fresh off her breakthrough triumph at the Canadian Open, the 18-year-old has the tennis world buzzing. All eyes are on how she handles the bright lights of her maiden slam on hard courts.

Coco Gauff knows the teenager’s sting firsthand. The 2023 US Open champion and reigning French Open winner fell to Mboko in the round of 16 on Canadian soil. Gauff, still only 21, has battled inconsistency since lifting the Roland-Garros trophy, stumbling in three of her last five matches, including a shock first-round exit at Wimbledon.

Over in the men’s draw, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz look destined to write another chapter in their budding rivalry. The world’s top two have split the past two slam finals, each decided in gruelling fashion, and another match in New York would have fans salivating.

And then there’s Novak Djokovic. The 38-year-old legend, who last hoisted a major at the 2023 US Open, has made the semifinal stage at all three slams this year. Yet he hasn’t played since Wimbledon, leaving many to wonder if the old master still has one more trick up his sleeve.
