The Australian Opals are set to take on the best in Asia as the 2025 FIBA Women's Asia Cup gets underway from July 13-20 in Shenzhen, China.
The Opals, ranked No. 2 in the world following a bronze medal finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, are looking for their first-ever gold at the Asia Cup. Since joining the competition in 2017, the Aussies have one runner-up and three third-place finishes to their name.
The tournament serves as a crucial step in their qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup in Germany, with the winner of the Asia Cup guaranteed automatic qualification, while the next five highest-placed teams will advance to the World Cup Qualifying Tournaments in March, 2026.
With head coach Sandy Brondello unavailable due to her WNBA commitments with the New York Liberty, Paul Goriss will be on the sidelines in China, guiding a youthful squad featuring two Opals debutants.
