National League playoff hopefuls battle on "Friday Night Baseball," as the Reds welcome in the Diamondbacks to begin a three-game series at Great American Ball Park.

Arizona is treading water in the vaunted NL West, though the bats are starting to heat up in the desert. Ketel Marte, healthy following an early season IL stint, is playing like a bona fide MVP candidate; Marte smacked a pair of home runs in Tuesday's win over the Braves, raising his OPS above the 1.000 mark.

And then there's Corbin Carroll, who leads the team in most offensive categories, among qualified hitters. The pair form a dynamic one-two punch atop the Diamondbacks' lineup, which ranks among the league's best.

Nick Lodolo will look to slow down the Snakes on Friday, and the young left-hander is off to the best start of his MLB career, with a 3.10 ERA through his first 12 starts. Lodolo tossed six scoreless innings against the Cubs in his last outing on Saturday.

This is the first of six scheduled meetings between the Reds and Diamondbacks this season, with the two teams scheduled to meet again in late August.
