The Philadelphia Phillies clinched the National League East on Monday night, after Monday turned to Tuesday on the East Coast in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the first inning, Kyle Schwarber did what he's done all year, hitting a home run to give the Phillies an early lead.
He's been integral to the team's success this season and has been a huge part of the Phillies' last four postseason runs. Schwarber is beloved by the fans and the clubhouse and is hitting free agency this winter.
There are reasonable concerns that he could leave for a new team this offseason. But, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal for The Athletic, the Phillies got a very encouraging Schwarber update that paints his odds of returning to Philadelphia as likely.
Kyle Schwarber receives a new contract update from an MLB insider
Rosenthal's update is clear and to the point: "The expectation is that designated hitter Kyle Schwarber will remain with the Philadelphia Phillies."
A potential deal for Schwarber is likely to fall around four years at $30 million per year, or roughly $120 million total. He's one of the best power hitters in baseball, and combined with his clubhouse leadership, he's an easy signing for the Phillies to make.
They initially signed him to a four-year, $79 million contract ahead of the 2022 season. In the years since, Schwarber has hit 184 home runs and has an .859 OPS across those four seasons.

The 32-year-old slugger is one of the top players in baseball this season, as he's second only to Cal Raleigh in home runs with 53. Schwarber leads Major League Baseball in RBIs with 128, and has a .943 OPS on the year.
His dominance in 2025, during a contract year, has been both great for the Phillies and also the reason for his new deal reaching unprecedented heights for a full-time designated hitter.
However, a contract north of $100 million over four years is well worth it for Schwarber. He's a leader, and a huge part of why the Phillies are a top contender in 2025.
This update from Rosenthal is a great one for the Phillies, as it reveals that, according to an MLB insider, around baseball, the Phillies are expected to keep Schwarber despite the slugger hitting free agency, and likely fielding plenty of interest from teams around baseball.
