The race is on.
Specifically, the NL Wild Card race.
The San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds are both in hot pursuit of the third and final playoff spot in the National League.
It's currently held by the New York Mets.
Entering Friday, Sept. 12, the Mets hold a two-game edge on the Giants and the Reds.
San Francisco and Cincinnati are both 74-72, meaning they each have 16 games left to play.
One hot streak can decide the postseason fate of as many as three teams, when you factor the Mets in. It seems likely only one of this trio gets to go to the playoffs, and the other two will go home.

The Giants looked out of it for a long time, but they've gotten back into the race lately behind hot hitting from Rafael Devers and Willy Adames.
The Reds keep finding strong pitching performances and timely hitting, which has helped overcome a brutal slump from Elly De La Cruz, who hasn't homered since July.
And the Mets, after being strong late in the season last year, keep teetering on the brink of disaster this time around.
The baseball season is long, and there are plenty of twists and turns. But now it's crunch time, and only one team (probably) can survive.
It's going to be a blast to see how this plays out.
