Nationals’ James Wood joins Barry Bonds in incredible MLB history for young player power image

James Wood has a long way to go to be considered one of the great sluggers baseball has ever seen.

But the Washington Nationals' 6-foot-7 young star has at least gotten himself off to a very good start.

Wood homered on Tuesday night, and he's now part of an incredibly exclusive list.

Three players before Wood had put up 65 extra-base hits and 15 steals in a National League season at age-22 or younger: Corbin Carroll (2023), Barry Bonds (1987) and Vada Pinson (1959-60).

Wood is officially on that list, per @JayHayKid.

Anytime you can hang out on a history list with Bonds, you're probably putting up some pretty insane numbers.

It's also a cool example of how baseball works, because Carroll is nothing like the 6-foot-7 Wood, yet still can put up similar totals.

Wood is the key to the future of the Nationals.

Sure, the Nats have other talented young players.

But the guy that can turn into the best player on the planet among that group is Wood. Is he Aaron Judge? Is he Barry Bonds?

Those are huge names to place on him, and it's probably greedy. But it's also not entirely impossible.

Wood is that special, and this latest stat is just the latest example. The Nationals have themselves a good one in Wood.
