WATCH: Mavericks' Kyrie Irving getting up shots amid ACL injury image

Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving has hit the ground running in his recovery after going down with a torn left ACL on March 3. A promising display of the veteran guard shooting basketball is doing the rounds on the internet.

NBA Central reshared a video where shirtless Irving is shooting from long range. He attempted around 10 shots from behind the arc and he made all of them. Most importantly, his shooting motion suggests that his torn ACL is recovering well.

For a torn-ACL recovery, that display is no small milestone. It suggests not only that his quadriceps, hamstrings, and surrounding stabilizers are able to bear some load, but also that his confidence in the knee is returning.

Earlier in the offseason, the Mavericks and Irving had agreed to a $118 million, three-year deal. Before getting injured last season, the star guard averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists,1.3 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. He shot 47.3 percent from the field, including 40.1 percent from three and 91.6 percent from the charity stripe.

Mavericks get positive update on Kyrie Irving's return timeline

With the likes of Anthony Davis and sensational rookie Cooper Flagg joining the fold, the Mavericks are the team to beat in the West once Kyrie Irving joins.

Just a day before his above shooting drill went viral, a positive update came along from Ashish Mathur, who said:

"NBA star Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks is 'ahead of schedule' in his ACL recovery, sources tell DallasHoopsJournal."

With the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic last season, they would like Irving to take on the leadership role. There are multiple figures like  D'Angelo Russell, Klay Thompson, and Daniel Gafford, who'll have to shoulder extra load in Irving's absence.
