The Houston Rockets made a huge splash this summer, moving toward title-contender status by trading for 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant.
Durant was traded to Houston after the Phoenix Suns missed the postseason. His two-plus-year stint in Phoenix was underwhelming, as the team never advanced past the Western Conference semifinals. The Suns are now retooling around Devin Booker, while Durant will aim to help the Rockets win their first title since 1995.
Several teams were reportedly involved in trade talks for Durant before he was ultimately sent to Houston. The former MVP is scheduled to become a free agent next summer unless the Rockets extend him, so those teams will likely continue monitoring his situation in Houston.

Mario Chalmers shuts down Kevin Durant-Heat rumors
The Miami Heat were reportedly involved in trade discussions for Durant this offseason before he was acquired by the Rockets. NBA insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson recently interviewed former Heat point guard Mario Chalmers, who explained why he believes Durant will never play for Miami.
“I don’t think KD ever goes to the Heat just because of the LeBron legacy,” he said. “He’s gotta win two or more championships before he goes to the Heat so, I don’t think that pressures warranted at this age or this time so I’d never thought that he’d go to the Heat.”
Durant is entering his age-37 season and is likely nearing the end of his Hall of Fame career. If the Rockets eventually sign him to a two-year extension, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Houston become his final stop.
Meanwhile, the Heat are not in a position to contend, which will likely be a priority for Durant in the twilight of his career. The Rockets offer him an opportunity to do so, while joining the Heat would come with high expectations.
