Michigan football is no stranger to vaunted rushing attacks. Two-time All-American running back Blake Corum, for example, was the only FBS player in the country to score a touchdown in every game in 2023 and was a vital piece of the Wolverines' championship squad.
Now, Michigan has a new commit who could replicate that production one day. The program landed five-star tailback Savion Hiter out of Virginia on Tuesday, who's the consensus top player at the position in the 2026 class.
However, some fans on social media criticized both the 17-year-old and Michigan for the move. His mentor and advisor, Adam McCann, defended his mentee on Wednesday.
"It’s some nasty adults over kids commitments sheeeshhhh," he said.

Michigan now has No. 1 QB and RB
Hiter's commitment guarantees that the Wolverines will have the top-ranked quarterback and running back in their respective classes next season for the first time in program history. Freshman signal-caller Bryce Underwood is the No. 1 overall 2025 recruit, while Hiter is No. 17 for 2026, via 247 Sports.
Hiter rushed for 1,698 yards as a junior at Louisa County High School last season, averaging 10.8 yards a carry. The 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pounder kept it simple when asked why he likes Michigan's offense, via The Athletic's Austin Meek.
"They run the ball a lot," he said.
Hiter adds to a 2026 Wolverines class that includes five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows out of Washington, D.C.. The 6-foot-6-inch, 225-pounder notched 33 tackles (five TFL), two sacks. and one forced fumble in six games for Gonzaga High School last season.
Michigan still has work to do to get back to its 2023 form, but head coach Sherrone Moore's first two recruiting classes are as good as fans can ask for.
