Transfer wideout makes instant impact with award-winning performance vs. Fresno State

When Cam Pickett stepped onto the field in a Kansas uniform for the first time, few expected the Ball State transfer to own the spotlight so quickly. But under the lights against Fresno State, he didn’t just contribute, he stole the show.

Pickett was named the East-West Shrine Bowl Breakout Offensive Player of the Weekafter a debut that turned heads across college football. His six catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns fueled Kansas’ 31-7 victory, marking him as the Jayhawks’ newest weapon.

One example of his impact came on Kansas’ opening drive when Jalon Daniels hit Pickett in stride for a 21-yard score. The connection electrified the crowd and set the tone. Later, in the second quarter, Pickett struck again, this time on a 13-yard touchdown that showed his ability to separate in tight spaces.

Even beyond the touchdowns, Pickett’s timing with Daniels stood out. On one drive, he accounted for nearly every yard, moving the chains before finishing with another end zone grab. His versatility forced Fresno State’s defense to adjust, often lining up out of the backfield and creating mismatches.

For Kansas, this wasn’t just a breakout, it was a glimpse of what’s ahead. Pickett’s debut proved he’s ready to be more than a transfer addition. He’s already become a cornerstone.
