Now that Trey Hendrickson has agreed to a one-year solution with the Cincinnati Bengals, there is only one hold-in remaining in the NFL.
It's Dallas Cowboys edge Micah Parsons, and that's his own fault, according to former Philadelphia Eagles president Joe Banner.
"If Jerry (Jones) offered Micah a deal that made him the highest paid non-QB ... If that offer is not more than four years long, then this dispute is now Micah's fault," Banner tweeted. "Often a player deserves support during negotiations, but not always. That's what the deal should be and if it's true, then the deal should be done."
Jones made the claim on Michael Irvin's YouTube channel that his offer to Parsons "would've made him the highest-paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL." Jones blamed Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, for the deal not being finalized as the Cowboys close in on the Sept. 4 opener against the Eagles.
Banner is a former front office executive for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns who was last in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons as a consultant in 2015. While in the NFL, Banner was part of an Eagles franchise that made a Super Bowl and played in four NFC Championship games.
When Parsons made his trade request public on Aug. 1, he said the meeting with Jones was supposed to be focused on team leadership. However, the owner quickly turned the discussion to Parsons' contract. Parsons will not make a deal without Mulugheta's involvement.
Jones believes Parsons agreed to the length of the deal, guaranteed money, and total money.
Myles Garrett of the Browns has the highest guarantee for a non-quarterback at $123.5 million, followed by San Francisco's Nick Bosa ($119.9 million) and Cincinnati wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase ($112 million). Jones appears content to let Parsons play this season on the fifth-year option, which costs $21.324 million, and consider using the franchise tags in the future.
