The Detroit Lions have reportedly pulled off a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Lions are sending wide receiver Tim Patrick to Jacksonville. The Associated Press' Mark Long adds that the Jags will be giving up a 2026 sixth-round pick in the trade.
Signed as a free agent last offseason, Patrick served as Detroit's No. 3 receiver in 2024, reeling in 33 catches for 394 yards and three touchdowns.
Patrick was re-signed earlier this offseason, but the Lions also added a pair of wide receivers in the 2025 NFL draft in Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett, both of whom made Detroit's 53-man roster on Tuesday.
Patrick had been struggling in camp and dealt with an injury that sidelined him at practice. In that span, TeSlaa shined both in training camp and the preseason and figured to take snaps away from the veteran.
Trading Patrick might mean the Lions had lost faith in him, but it's more likely a sign that the team depends on TeSlaa to step into Patrick's role.
With the trade done, the Lions now have five wide receivers on their 53-man roster, including Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Kalif Raymond, TeSlaa and Lovett.
It'll be interesting to see if Detroit adds a sixth wideout. Undrafted free agent and preseason standout Jackson Meeks is someone to keep an eye on after he was waived on Tuesday.
