With just a few weeks to go before the start of the regular season, an NFL analyst has suggested two trades for the Detroit Lions to make, one with the Los Angeles Rams and the other with the Buffalo Bills.

We saw a flurry of trades around the NFL on Wednesday with final roster cuts less than one week away on Aug. 27, and there's a good chance we'll see more in the weeks ahead.

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay proposed one trade for each team in the NFL before Week 1 and two of them included the Lions. The first one saw Detroit send wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Bills. Here's the proposal:

  • Lions get: 2026 seventh-round pick
  • Bills get: WR Tim Patrick

It's not crazy to think the Lions could trade Patrick. After all, he has not had a good offseason and just recently came back from injury.

Meanwhile, third-round pick and wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa has been impressive, and so much so that he may steal snaps from the veteran sooner rather than later.

The Bills have major issues at wide receiver. They have no shortage of questions with their top three in Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir and Joshua Palmer, and there isn't much behind those three, which would make Patrick a welcomed addition.

All that said, the Lions will likely be hesitant to trade Patrick, seeing as how they would have to depend on three inexperienced players to fill out the depth chart behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond.

Along with TeSlaa, rookies Dominic Lovett and Jackson Meeks would likely make the cut if Patrick was jettisoned. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, depending on those guys would be a risky proposition.

The other trade suggested by Kay involves a Lions deal with the Rams. Here's that proposal:

  • Lions get: 2026 seventh-round pick
  • Rams get: QB Hendon Hooker

This one makes more sense from the Lions' perspective. Hooker has been soundly outplayed by veteran Kyle Allen in the preseason and is set to lose the QB2 battle against him.

If the Lions aren't on board with carrying three quarterbacks, Hooker could get the boot and it would make sense to try and get something for him before just cutting ties and sending him to waivers, where he could get scooped up.

The problem with suggesting the Rams as a trade partner is they have two veterans on the depth chart in Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo, and they already have a developmental quarterback in Stetson Bennett.

With such a crowded depth chart, it's unlikely the Rams are going to spring for yet another young quarterback, and especially one that has shown less than the developmental player sitting in the QB3 spot.

While we could definitely see Hooker getting traded, it's hard to envision the Rams being the team to take him.
