The Detroit Lions suffered a blowout defeat to the Houston Texans to end the preseason, and quarterback Hendon Hooker was once again a complete liability.
Hooker played the second half of Saturday's preseason finale and failed to lead a scoring drive. The Tennessee product completed six of 11 passes for 70 yards with an interception.
With another turnover on Saturday, Hooker's preseason turnover count concluded at five. The 27-year-old didn't post a single touchdown and completed 22 of 40 passes for a 55% completion rate.
Allen officially locked up the QB2 competition on Saturday, going five for five with 66 yards and a touchdown versus the Texans. The veteran signal-caller will be the backup behind Jared Goff, so now the question remains whether the Lions decide to keep Hooker.
Though Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes could still believe in Hooker, it's hard to see them retaining him. Most teams don't usually keep three quarterbacks unless the third signal-caller is too good to cut, and Hooker definitely isn't that.
More than likely, the 2023 third-round pick will be waived by the Lions in the coming days, and his future in the NFL will be murky. He could land back on Detroit's practice squad or get picked up and play elsewhere.
