A former Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has been handed a three-game suspension by the league to begin the 2025 season.

During an interview on KNBR, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that veteran receiver Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension due to violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

"Yes. You can always appeal it so we'll hope for the best on that, but (three weeks) is what we're planning for," Shanahan said of Robinson's suspension length via KNBR on X.

Robinson signed a two-year deal worth $9.5 million with the 49ers this offseason. The 30-year-old has always been a solid depth receiver and spent the 2024 campaign with the Los Angeles Rams, posting a career-high 505 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Florida product began his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, spending six seasons in Kansas City and winning the Super Bowl in 2019. He has also made stops with the Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders, and Rams.

Losing Robinson for the first few weeks is a crushing blow for San Francisco. The wide receiver room was already looking thin with Brandon Aiyuk still out with an ACL injury, so Robinson's suspension just makes things worse.
