The Boston Bruins traded for Henri Jokiharju at the trade deadline for a fourth-round pick.
His contract is up as an unrestricted free agent, and the Bruins have a decision to make.
GM Don Sweeney told reporters that the Bruins are trying to re-sign Jokiharju before free agency opens on July 1.
The 26-year old Jokiharju had just 10 points in 60 games in 2024-25, the worst points per game output of his career.
He's known as a solid defender, though, and he was plus-7 in the final 18 games of the season for Boston.
AFP Analytics projects him to get a three-year deal worth $3.6 million per year, or $10.8 million in total value.

A more tame reading of the situation may not expect Jokiharju to get that much.
But if the Bruins want to keep him from testing the open market, they may have to raise the price up to that level. Otherwise, what does Jokiharju have to lose by going to free agency?
Keep your eyes on this one in the coming days. The Bruins' willingness to pay up might tell us a lot about what they think about Jokiharju's odds of bouncing back in 2025-26.
