Many free agent signings are glamorous.

The Maple Leafs have a chance to make a free agent signing that's pretty ugly.

Ugly can work in the NHL, though, so don't knock it yet.

The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reports that it "wouldn't surprise me if the Maple Leafs are among the teams who show interest in Michael Pezzetta when the market opens Tuesday."

Pezzetta is a physical grinder who has played his four NHL seasons for the Montreal Canadiens.

Through four seasons, Pezzetta has 710 hits. That includes seasons with 242 and 239 hits.

The 27-year old Toronto native would get a chance to return home after the Canadiens originally selected him in the sixth round of the 2016 draft.

At 6-foot-1, 219 pounds, Pezzetta isn't much of a scorer. In 200 career games, he has just 15 goals and 23 assists.

But if you need a guy to muck it up, Pezzetta is up.

Every good team has someone like Pezzetta, and the Maple Leafs are a good team. Why not add a sturdy presence and take him away from Montreal in the process?

It definitely seems like a fun idea.
