Hansi Flick is seeming to take the beginning of the year to experiment with his lineup and send messages to underperforming players as he sees fit.

After changing his lineup for the Levante game, he once again has tweaked his lineup as he seems to not like what he's seeing.

We will see how this works out but it's interesting that Flick, who liked to keep most of his starting eleven the same last season, has gone for three different lineups so far with minimal injuries.

Four Changes To The Lineup

The non-surprising changes are Dani Olmo coming in for Marcus Rashford. Rashford got a chance to start last week, but it took Raphinha out of his game to be moved to the 10 and it was obvious that one of Olmo or Fermin Lopez was going to start the next game.

The other non-surprise is Frenkie De Jong getting back into the lineup as he was out of the team due to a personal matter but his position was always his to get back.

The shocker is the complete change to the lineup is the backline as Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde come in for Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi.

It's unclear whether Kounde or Eric Garcia will line up at centre back but it's interesting that Flick has opted to change both centre backs.

It's fair to say that the pairing of Cubarsi and Araujo didn't look great against Levante but dropping both means Flick is sending a clear message that he's not happy with their performances and they can be replaced.

Whether this gamble works or not is yet to be seen but it shows that Flick is capable of dropping any player if they're not performing.
