The India-Pakistan rivalry added another chapter this week as the two sides clashed in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025.

India produced a dominant all-round performance to brush aside Pakistan by seven wickets in Dubai - stretching their head-to-head record in T20Is to 11-3.

The result has left Pakistan with a difficult path to the final and while the cricket has been serious, the reactions off the field have sparked plenty of laughter online.

Pakistan fan's unusual request to India

A light-hearted moment surfaced on social media after the match when a Pakistan supporter appealed directly to India:

"As a Pakistani fan, I request to India to please boycott the next match because we want to qualify for the final. Please boycott next match so we will get two points. Our team can't even win again Afghanistan, so we can only request India to boycott the Super 4 game.”

The fan was referring to the potential Super Four meeting between the two sides - expected to take place next Sunday.

Calls for boycott amid political tension

Interestingly, the word "boycott" has already been part of the wider conversation around this Asia Cup. After the Pahalgam terror attacks earlier this year, sections of the public called for India to withdraw from matches against Pakistan.

The BCCI, however, made it clear that since the Asia Cup is an ACC event and not a bilateral series, India would fulfil its fixtures. That stance was evident when the group stage match went ahead as scheduled.

India's commanding win in the group stage has only increased the pressure on Pakistan ahead of a possible Super Four rematch. With their batting faltering again, Pakistan now face the tough task of turning things around quickly if they are to challenge for a spot in the final.

The fan's tongue-in-cheek plea might not carry weight with the BCCI but it highlights the anxiety in Pakistan's camp; and the confidence India's early dominance has injected into the tournament narrative.
