Mohammed Shami shares opinion on Jasprit Bumrah's workload management - "Management's call, outside chatter doesn't matter" image

Indian cricket team fast bowler shared his view on Jasprit Bumrah sitting out in two out of the five Test matches during India's Test tour of England in the summer due to workload management.

Even before the series started, the pacer had confirmed that he would feature in only three of the five Tests.

Bumrah, who suffered a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was yet to fully recover from the pain before the tour. He was sidelined until April and had missed the Champions Trophy and the start of the Indian Premier League 2025 season for Mumbai Indians.

In a bid to protect his body from further damage, Bumrah requested that he won't overexert and had given a heads-up to captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the team.

What did Jasprit Bumrah decide before the series began?

Before the first Test, Bumrah had already informed the team management and selectors that he would play only three test matches of the five match series.

Across those three matches, he bowled 119.4 overs, taking 14 wickets at an average of 26. This plan was made in coordination with BCCI physios and medical staff, who felt more than three Tests in the series could put excessive strain on his body.

Mohammed Shami shares opinion on Jasprit Bumrah's workload management

Bumrah's long-time fast bowling partner Mohammed Shami was recently asked to express his views on the workload management issue, to which he told India TV: "See, it depends on the management's decision. The outside chatter does not really matter. What the management, captain and the coach want is important. But that's okay, if you think the series is tough and if all the players are not available, you have to make the best use of the resources you have at hand. But, it is the management's call in the end."
