Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli

Rohit Sharma has struggled for form in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, accumulating only 31 runs across 3 Tests that he has played after missing the first one due to personal reasons.

Following his return to the playing XI, his scores read 3, 6, 10, 3 and 9 while he did not bat in the second innings of the rain-affected Gabba Test.

Adding to his batting form, his captaincy has also been termed uninspiring after not been able to win any game since the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh. He has lost 5 and drawn 1 Tests against New Zealand and Australia. See what the latest reports suggest.

Rohit to retire and Kohli to take up the Test captaincy role?

According to the latest from the TOI, the Indian selection committee and the team management, led by Gautam Gambhir have decided not to look at the 37-year-old in Tests beyond the Australia tour after the veteran already announced his retirement from the T20Is earlier this year.

Following this series against Australia, India will head into the new cycle of the WTC as they tour England later in 2025 and with Rohit probably retiring, Virat Kohli has been one of the players who has assumed the leadership roles with leading the team huddles and also sometimes taking charge of setting the fields and planning with the bowlers.

However, currently, it does not look like Virat will be given the captaincy once again with the emergence of Jasprit Bumrah who led the team to a win in Perth, it is still thought that Virat is likely to stay in the scheme of things and in the leadership group, given he gets some performances under the belt.
