Rishabh Pant taking a break between the overs in the final of the T20 World Cup against South Africa is a famous story that led to the momentum break during the run chase.

The incident had happened after the end of the 16th over of the chase when the Proteas only needed 26 off 24.

Hardik Pandya had come to bowl his over, and Pant was seen calling a physio out for some treatment on his knee — it was later revealed that the wicketkeeper faked discomfort to break the flow of the game.

The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, at the time, had no clue about it and thought Pant was genuinely in some pain.

Rohit Sharma reveals initial feelings about Pant's injury break in T20 WC Final

While recalling the final with Star Sports, Sharma revealed that he felt Pant was really suffering due to an earlier knee injury he sustained in his accident in December 2022, which saw him out of action for almost 1.5 years.

"See, Hardik has come to bowl there. So, we were discussing with Hardik what to do. I didn't know what had happened before. I genuinely thought that something had happened to him —  the accident he had."

"It was just to stop the game a little bit. The momentum was with them. So, it was very important to break that. So, I think we went back to that. Eventually, Hardik dismissed Klaasen," he told Star Sports.

The aforementioned incident became famous as the match was turned on its head as soon as the physio went back inside.

The well-set Heinrich Klaasen was dismissed on the very next ball, followed by Marco Jansen and David Miller soon, as India won the match by 7 runs.
