(getty)

Almost a year after his T20I retirement, Rohit Sharma recently announced his Test retirement after a slump of a couple of series and a new World Test Championship cycle is approaching with the five-match England tour.

Sharma remains the captain of ODIs — the only format he will play with only the ODI World Cup missing from his illustrious trophy cabinet.

After winning the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy in the last 12 months, Sharma engraved his name in the history of cricket in gold, but what sets him apart is how he has been the same since his days as a youngster in Mumbai.

Pointing out his nature, his former Mumbai teammate who turned to coaching, Bhavesh Patel has written an emotional tribute for the legend. See what he had to say.

Former Mumbai teammate pens down an emotional tribute to Rohit Sharma:

During the T20 Mumbai League where Sharma is acting as the face (ambassador) of the competition, Patel met him and shared a hug alongside some fun conversation, as per the pictures posted by the former Mumbai player.

Patel wrote about the friendship they still share like they did back in the 2000s, while wishing him the best for the future.

"Meeting after years, but the bond stayed unshaken..🫂♥️

Just like our love for the game. Cricket taught us discipline, patience, and respect… but this friendship taught us how to carry those lessons off the field too.😊
