His training comes at a time when there are constant talks about his ODI future and whether he will continue till the 2027 World Cup or not.

Kohli training in London before the Australia ODIs

Kohli, who ended his T20I journey after India’s World Cup triumph in 2024 and also stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year, now has ODIs as his only international format.

Reports in India have suggested that Kohli could be nearing the end of his ODI careers, though the BCCI has brushed aside such claims.

Amid all this speculation, Kohli decided to shift his focus back to the field with a long, focused session in London.

The training was far from casual. According to those present, he batted against pace and spin from different angles, treating the indoor nets like a proper match situation. Helping him out was Naeem Amin, the assistant coach of IPL side Gujarat Titans.

What lies ahead for Kohli and India’s ODI plans?

India’s tour of Australia begins on October 19 in Perth before heading to Adelaide and Sydney. After that, South Africa will travel to India for three ODIs later in the year, making it a packed white-ball calendar before 2026.

While there is no confirmation yet on whether Kohli will feature in warm-up games against Australia A before the main tour, one thing is clear, Kohli has already set himself in motion for the tough challenge on Australian pitches.

At this stage of his career, he does not spend hours in the nets without a bigger reason. Every practice is about sharpening his game, building new habits, or keeping himself ready for the highest level.

With ODI cricket now his last format for India, his focus on getting it right against Australia is no surprise.
