The Delhi Capitals ended their 9-year association with their captain, Rishabh Pant ahead of the auctions for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League late in 2024.

The franchise went on to buy a few potential captaincy options in the auction including the likes of KL Rahul who was the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper, Faf du Plessis.

However, after a lot of speculation about who would be the new DC captain, the Delhi-based franchise, on March 14, announced Axar Patel as their new captain. See the announcement below.

Axar Patel to lead the Delhi Capitals into a new era

In the video to announce their new captain after weeks of teasing, DC got many of their players including KL Rahul, Mohit Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma among others featuring before Axar appears and names himself as the captain.

The 2024 T20 World Champion has been with the Capitals since 2019 and has scored 967 runs and taken 62 wickets for them in 82 appearances. He also captained them once in 2024 which unfortunately came at a losing cause.

He will join an elite list of players who have captained this franchise over the years including Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Mahela Jayawadene and Rishabh Pant among others as he becomes 14th captain in their history.
