But now, with just a few matches to go in IPL 2025, something feels different and even rival voices are taking notice.

Suresh Raina, a Chennai Super Kings legend and one of Indian cricket’s most trusted voices, has come out in strong support of RCB’s chances this year. Speaking ahead of the weekend clash, he sounded genuinely impressed with the Bengaluru franchise’s new energy and structure.

It is not just about names on paper. Raina believes the current squad of RCB is working as a complete unit. He pointed out how they’ve defended below-par scores- totals like 150 and even 136 on the batting-friendly surface at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to him, this shows how much the bowling side has improved, something RCB fans have long prayed for.

“There are strong chances because Royal Challengers Bengaluru is playing in a different league this year. They’ve defended scores like 150 and 136 at Chinnaswamy and their bowling unit has stepped up," Raina said while speaking on Star Sports.

He also praised Rajat Patidar’s leadership. Raina didn’t hold back in appreciating how they defeated CSK twice this season.

“The new captain has beaten Chennai Super Kings twice, once in Chennai and again at home, which speaks volumes. The dressing room is positive and these are signs of a team that can go all the way," Raina added.

Will RCB win IPL 2025?

Raina also acknowledged that other teams like Mumbai, Gujarat, and Punjab are doing well too, but his gut feeling? This might just be Virat’s year.

The ex-CSK star summed it up perfectly- “Yes, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are also doing well, but this might finally be Virat’s year to lift the trophy after 18 years."
