Gujarat Titans (GT) got their IPL 2025 season rolling with a solid 36-run win over Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 29 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

GT put up 196 for 8 on a tricky black-soil pitch, and MI couldn’t keep up, falling short at 160 despite Hardik Pandya’s return. It’s another slow start for MI- fans are used to this by now- but GT showed they’re ready to fight.
How did GT set the tone?
GT’s openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan came out swinging. They smashed 66 runs in the powerplay with 32 each off 18 balls and gave GT their third-best start ever in IPL.

Sudharsan kept going, hitting a 50 off 33 balls, but GT stumbled late. After 170 for 3 in 17 overs, they lost quick wickets as Sudharsan got out lbw, Tewatia was run out and Rutherford fell cheap and GT finished with 196.
What went wrong for MI’s chase?
MI’s chase started bad and got worse. Mohammed Siraj bowled Rohit Sharma for 8- two fours then stumps flying. Ryan Rickelton followed soon, out for 6 to Siraj too, leaving MI at 48 for 2 after six overs.

Suryakumar Yadav tried to save it with 41 off 27, hitting big sixes off Siraj and Sai Kishore, but Tilak Varma slowed down later and the rest couldn’t step up..
