With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season being suspended for a week and details of when it will resume still a doubt, Michael Vaughan has floated an interesting suggestion.

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement stating: "Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders."

This comes at a time when border tensions are at an all-time high after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, followed by India's retaliatory strikes with 'Operation Sindoor' against terror targets inside Pakistan.

On Thursday, May 8, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had to be called off midway in Dharamshala due to escalating attacks by Pakistan.

However, the question remains: Will the IPL resume back to normal after a week, will all matches be played in India or will they be shifted to another country?

What did Michael Vaughan say about shifting IPL 2025 outside India?

Former England captain and now commentator, Vaughan, wondered if it was possible for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season to be played outside India. He suggested the United Kingdom (UK) as a choice.

While it may not happen, iconic venues such as the Lord's, The Oval, and Old Trafford being on offer is a tempting option. While India have hosted the tournament in countries like South Africa and the UAE, the UK has never been chosen as a venue before.

Vaughan said: "I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought ?"

If the IPL shits to England, it could give the domestic Indian players a good opportunity to get a feel of overseas conditions. Currently, Indians contracted to the BCCI and IPL are restricted from taking part in T20 leagues in other countries.

Moreover, with the upcoming five-match India vs England Test series lined up in June, a trip to England might not only give them an idea of the pitches, but they could also play in England's domestic red-ball competition, the County Championship.

This could provide the best preparation for the Indian stars ahead of the challenging tour against England, where the team has not won a series since 2007.
