On the other hand, MI beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs in the Eliminator to advance to play in Qualifier 2. However, they had now been knocked out after losing the clash against PBKS.
Interestingly, PBKS had the best win percentage at Ahmedabad in IPL with 67%, while MI had the worst at just 16% ahead of the match. With the loss, MI continues to never have made it to the final after playing the Eliminator.

End of match: PBKS won by 5 wickets
MI suffered their sixth consecutive defeat at Ahmedabad while Iyer created history by becoming the first captain to lead three different IPL teams to the finals.
19th over proved to be very expensive for Mumbai as Iyer smashes four sixes. He punished Ashwani Kumar, who also bowled a no-ball in the over.
End of 15 overs: PBKS 147/3
After scoring just 4 runs (off Ashwani Kumar) and 7 runs (off Jasprit Bumrah) in the 11th and 12th over, PBKS take 19 runs off Reece Topley. Skipper Shreyas Iyer smashed three consecutive sixes in the 13th over.
Nehal Wadhera supported his captain, hitting two boundaries against Boult, taking 14 runs off the 14th over as he continues to drag the game away from his former team, MI.
At the end of 15 overs, PBKS are 147/3 and need just 57 runs off 30 balls with two set batters in the middle.
End of 10 overs: Punjab Kings 98/3
Mumbai Indians made a strong comeback between overs 7 and 10, conceding just 34 runs while picking up the crucial wicket of Josh Inglis.
Mitchell Santner bowled a tidy first over after the powerplay. Hardik Pandya then struck a vital blow, dismissing the dangerous Inglis for 38 with a clever slower-ball bouncer.
Nehal Wadhera had a few nervy moments as he got a life when Boult dropped him on 13 off Hardik's bowling. He made the most of it, taking 17 runs off Hardik’s second over to lift the scoring rate again.
At the 10-over mark, PBKS sit at 98/3. Mumbai have clawed back well, but Punjab still have a solid platform.
End of the powerplay: Punjab Kings 64/2
Punjab Kings came out with intent but lost both openers early in an action-packed powerplay. Prabhsimran opened the innings with a boundary but was soon dismissed by Boult for 6.
Josh Inglis took charge with aggressive strokeplay, hammering 20 runs off Bumrah’s over, including two sixes and two fours.
Priyansh added quick runs before falling to Ashwani Kumar on the very first ball he faced. Shreyas Iyer got off the mark with a confident boundary.
A good powerplay for PBKS as they stay on top with positive intent but they'll need to keep the momentum going and avoid a middle-order collapse.
End of the innings: Mumbai Indians 203/6
The five-time champions have managed to put up 203/6 on the board, thanks to 44 each from Tilak and SKY.
Naman Dhir's 37(18) turned out to be difference making as PBKS took a few quick wickets.
Azmatullah Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers with 2/43 in 4 overs while Jamieson and Chahal took a wicket each in the final 10 overs as well.
Jamieson impressed with his spell of just 30 runs in 4 overs while Arshdeep Singh conceded 44 off 4 — going wicketless.
End of 10 overs: Mumbai Indians 102/2
Vyshak Vijaykumar gets the dangerous-looking Bairstow for 38(24) while trying to scoop a slower one over the keeper's head but hits it straight down to Inglis' throat.
Varma has held the fort well at 32*(20) as he is joined with Suryakumar Yadav at 4. Yadav is currently unbeaten at 16 off 11 as he approaches his 16th 25+ score in the season.
Pick of the bowlers so far has been Vyshak — conceding 1/20 in 2 overs.
End of the powerplay: Mumbai Indians 65/1
MI has started well again, thanks to a quick-fire 36*(21) from Jonny Bairstow and 14*(9) from Tilak Varma, who has been promoted to 3.
Rohit Sharma fell early in the third over to a length delivery around the off stump that he flicked straight to deep backward square after not connecting it properly.
The sole wicket-taker, Marcus Stoinis has taken 1/14 in the only over he bowled in the powerplay.
