When Chennai Super Kings’ campaign in IPL 2025 came to an early close, few players had left as strong an impression in such a short time as Dewald Brevis.
The young South African batter joined the side midway through the season and not only delivered with the bat but also walked away with deep admiration for one man - MS Dhoni. Brevis was drafted in as a replacement after going unsold at the mega auction.

He took to social media to share his gratitude to the CSK franchise and fans. But it was his words about Dhoni that stood out. He highlighted the lasting impact the veteran skipper had on the youngster.
What did Dewald Brevis say about MS Dhoni?
Brevis couldn’t hide his respect for Dhoni during an interaction with TalkSport. Speaking about the former India captain, Brevis said Dhoni’s presence was magnetic - not just because of his cricketing stature but the calm and openness he brought to the dressing room.
"MS Dhoni is a real living legend. He’s just incredible. I have seen that he is as fit as any other player out there, he always has time for you. You are always welcome to go to him & talk to him, about anything whether cricket, life or general," said Brevis.
Earlier this week, Brevis also posted a heartfelt note to the entire CSK team. He thanked the franchise for welcoming him warmly and giving him a platform to express himself.

In six matches, the 22-year-old scored 225 runs at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180. His cameos helped a struggling middle order and gave CSK a glimpse of what the future might hold.
Having previously played for Mumbai Indians, Brevis was overlooked at the 2025 auction. But after a strong SA20 showing for MI Cape Town, CSK picked him up as a mid-season replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh.

Along with Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel, Brevis helped breathe some life into a side in transition. With a mini-auction on the horizon, CSK have the option to retain Brevis.
Judging by his impact and his bond with the team (and Dhoni in particular) he may well be part of the franchise’s plans going forward.
