Following a week's halt in the 2025 season due to security reasons, the Indian Premier League (IPL) announced the revised schedule for the remaining matches on May 12.

However, with 17 games left and a week added to the original dates of the season, some teams might face issues with the availability of their overseas stars.

With the schedule change, the playoffs (May 29-June 3) will now coincide with the build-up of the World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa and the West Indies' tour of England.

Among the sides likely to qualify for the playoffs, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Gujarat Titans are the prominent names who will be highly impacted in the absence of their key foreign stars.

How many foreign players will RCB and GT lose in IPL 2025 playoffs?

Gujarat Titans:

Ahead of the resumption of the season, the Titans sit at the top of the table, with one win required to seal the final four spot.

However, the availability of their only two important overseas batters, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford, is in danger for the KO games to be played from May 29 to June 3.

Jos Buttler: Their third highest and season's 5th highest run scorer with 500 runs, only 10 behind the Orange Cap holder, Suryakumar Yadav, will most likely be leaving to face the West Indies in the ODI series to be played from May 29 to June 3.

Sherfane Rutherford: The Caribbean batter is GT's 4th highest run-scorer this season with 229 runs at a strike rate of 159. He has already been named in the WI squad that will travel to Ireland from May 21 to 25, followed by the England series from May 29 to June 3.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru:

Heading into the break in the season, RCB was scheduled to play the next match where a win would have secured their playoff spot as they sit 2nd in the table, only on the virtue of the net run rate with 16 points in 11 matches.

They are very likely to miss as many as 6 overseas stars that are listed below:

Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi: The star opening bowler and his backup, who also won RCB one of the matches, are both scheduled to appear in the World Test Championship Final from June 11.

Their match doesn't coincide with the playoff, however, the respective boards might call them up in order to prepare with the team for the big match at the Lord's.

Romario Shepherd: Like Rutherford for GT, Shepherd is also named in the WI squad for both Ireland and England ODIs that will be played between May 21 and June 3. He is likely to miss the playoffs, should they reach it.

Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, and Liam Livingstone: The English core of RCB includes their first-choice opener, Salt, his backup, Bethell, and all-rounder Livingstone, who are expected to play the ODIs vs WI from May 29 to June 3.

It could create a problem for the RCB management, considering the importance of the players to their playing XI.
