England are well on course to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after thumping Serbia 5-0, but who will be in the squad for next summer's tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico?
The Sporting News has looked at the players on Thomas Tuchel's list for next week's matches against Wales and Latvia. Tuchel has got off to a 100% start in qualifying despite chopping and changing his squad, with new faces coming in as well as an old head returning in Jordan Henderson.
This time, he goes for more continuity - making just three changes from the squad that finished the last window. As you can see, there is no place again for in-form Everton loanee Jack Grealish or Man City's Phil Foden. Where does it leave their chances of being picked next summer?
Jude Bellingham also misses out but he has only played four matches for Real Madrid this season following shoulder surgery. Is he rested or is there more to this story?
There is a spot for Marcus Rashford, who came on and scored a penalty against Serbia as he looks to rediscover his best form in time for the World Cup, while Man City's versatile Nico O'Reilly is a surprise late call up. Let's take a look at the current odds for selection.

England World Cup Squad Odds
It's not been confirmed yet whether teams will have 23 or 26 man squads, while form and Tuchel's preference will also heavily shape selection, so these odds could greatly change in the coming months.
With many players firmly odds on for selection, let's focus on those closer to the evens mark who might be sweating on their place when Tuchel finalises his squad.
Player | Odds |
Dean Henderson | 1/3 |
Phil Foden | 1/3 |
Marc Guehi | 4/11 |
Ezri Konsa | 4/9 |
Myles Lewis-Skelly | 1/2 |
Elliot Anderson | 8/15 |
Anthony Gordon | 4/7 |
Eberechi Eze | 4/7 |
Marcus Rashford | 4/7 |
Morgan Rogers | 4/7 |
Trent Alexander-Arnold | 4/6 |
Reece James | 4/6 |
Noni Madueke | 8/11 |
Dan Burn | 8/11 |
John Stones | 4/5 |
Ollie Watkins | 5/6 |
Morgan Gibbs White | 5/6 |
Adam Wharton | 5/6 |
Jack Grealish | 1/1 |
Conor Gallagher | 5/4 |
Valentino Livramento | 11/10 |
Curtis Jones | 11/8 |
Jarrad Branthwaite | 6/4 |
Jordan Henderson | 6/4 |
Jarrod Bowen | 7/4 |
Nico O'Reilly | 3/1 |
One of the biggest beneficiaries since the last international window has been Rashford, who has come in from odds against to firmly odds on at 4/7.
Eberechi Eze and Trent Alexander-Arnold stand out among those still fighting for their places despite high-profile summer moves, while John Stones looks a good bet if he can stay fit - as does Jarrad Branthwaite, whose sliding odds probably reflect his ongoing hamstring injury.
Who will make the England squad for the 2026 World Cup?
The odds reflect who is already guaranteed a place on the plane across the Atlantic barring injury, with captain Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Jordan Pickford all first-choice picks.
From here, things get a bit more interesting with Tuchel having so many options in almost every position. Alexander-Arnold is odds-on to make the squad but was not selected for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
Conversely, Djed Spence (3/1), Jordan Henderson (6/4) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (7/2) are rated less than 50% likely for selection with the bookies, but all made Tuchel's most recent squad.
As for Tuchel's former Chelsea favourite Mason Mount (8/1) and his Manchester United teammates Kobbie Mainoo (5/1) and Harry Maguire (11/4), they all face a big fight to get back into national team plans ahead of next summer.

Thomas Tuchel's Predicted England World Cup XI
Tuchel has tried out plenty of players and systems in his short and mostly unimpressive start with England, but it feels likely he will play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation next summer to get the best out of his best players. This is how we think the Three Lions might line up come June 2026.
Predicted England Team for the 2026 World Cup
(4-3-3): Pickford (GK) - James, Konsa, Guehi, Lewis-Skelly - Rice, Anderson - Palmer, Bellingham, Saka - Kane

Thomas Tuchel England Results
As mentioned, Tuchel's start to life with the national team was far from impressive, even if he had kept up a 100% record in World Cup qualifying. However, the 5-0 win in Serbia potentially marked a breakout night for the German coach as he looks to end 60 years of hurt for the Three Lions.
