Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford battled for the undisputed super middle-weight championship on Saturday (September 13) in what was one of the most eagerly-awaited fights in years.

Crawford put on a stunning display at the Allegiant Stadium to take home the belts and reign as world champion in a fifth different weight division.

The fight was broadcast live on streaming giant Netflix, with subscribers of the platform from across the globe being able to watch the event at no extra cost.

The streaming route has become a new way for boxing bouts to be televised, as mega fights have traditionally been broadcast on television and through a pay-per-view model.

Netflix did plenty to promote the event, as a two-part documentary series titled 'Countdown: Canelo vs. Crawford' was released on the streaming platform a few weeks before the contest.

The streamer also shared the final press conference and weigh-in for the event live on social media.

How may viewers did Netflix draw for the undisputed contest?

Netflix released its viewing figures for the mega fight on Monday (September 15), revealing that 41.4 million people from around the world tuned into watch the sporting event.

Out of the total viewership, 36.6 million of the viewers watched the fight live, with the rest catching up on the broadcast within the following 24 hours.

The peak viewing audience for the event was 24 million. Netflix confirmed the overall viewing statistics made Canelo vs. Crawford "the most-viewed men’s championship boxing match this century."

The event became the top trending viewing choice on the streamer in 30 countries, including in the United Kingdom, United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, Ireland and Argentina.

While the overall viewing figures for the undisputed showdown are impressive, the event falls well short of the audience Netflix brought in for Mike Tyson's fight with Jake Paul last November.

The bout between the boxing icon and the YouTube star drew 125 million viewers, with a peak audience of 65 million.

Also, the second fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on the undercard of the event in Texas drew 74 million global viewers.

Netflix are set to continue its venture into the world of live boxing, as the streamer will show Paul's upcoming exhibition fight against Gervonta Davis in November, live from State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
