Liverpool kick off their EFL Cup campaign at home to Southampton on September 23.

The Reds join all Premier League sides competing in Europe by entering at the Third Round stage as the Saints land at Anfield.

Arne Slot's side have won all five of the league games so far this season - including a 2-1 weekend derby victory over Everton - plus a UEFA Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.

However, with a packed schedule heading into the October international break, Slot will utilise his squad depth against Southampton, with several changes planned.

Slot led his team to the the final of the competition last season, before losing out to Newcastle United at Wembley, and he opted to leave his big-name stars out until the latter stages.

Following the home win over Everton, Slot confirmed five players who will not feature against Southampton, after playing three successive full games.

"The good thing is I have the option to rotate throughout the week, and the ones that played three times 90 minutes are Virgil [Van Dijk], Ibou [Ibrahima Konate], Mo [Mohamed Salah], Ryan [Gravenberch] and Dom [Dominik Szoboszlai]," as per the Daily Mirror.

"I can tell you now you won’t be seeing them on Tuesday."
