Liverpool could be tempted into one final move before the Premier League summer transfer window closes on September 1.
Ahead of the deadline, Arne Slot was rumoured to be planning a renewed offer for Alexander Isak, but Newcastle United look to have blocked any chance of an exit.
The Magpies rejected Liverpool's first bid of £110m for the Swedish striker at the start of August with Newcastle valuing the 25-year-old at £150m.
Liverpool were willing to make a renewed offer, but Newcastle's firm stance looks to have ended the saga, as Slot plots his title defence.
Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa have both been linked with Anfield exits - as Slot looks to balance a summer of spending - with Kostas Tsimikas attracting interest from Nottingham Forest.
Slot has splurged £265m on new faces this summer, with £170m coming from sales, but there is still one area of squad concern for the Dutchman.

Despite Virgil van Dijk signing a contract extension, centre-back partner Ibrahima Konate has not agreed fresh terms on Merseyside, with his current deal expiring next summer.
Liverpool want a resolution on the Frenchman's future, but Crystal Palace have now give the green light for Slot to revive his interest in captain Marc Guehi, who is also out of contract in 2026.
Crystal Palace issue Marc Guehi exit update
Guehi led Palace to FA Cup glory last season, and he clinched the Community Shield against Liverpool on August 10, but his future looks to lie away from Selhurst Park.
Similarly to Konate's position at Liverpool, Palace are determined not to lose Guehi for free in nine months' time, and club chairman Steve Parish has confirmed the exit plan.

"We'd have to do that [sell Guehi], of course," as per BBC Sport.
"For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it's a problem for us unfortunately. Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn't afford to lose both.
"We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation. We'll have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs to be a new contract or a conclusion of some kind."
Palace's hopes of retaining Guehi have also been hit by their demotion to the UEFA Conference League this season following an unsuccessful CAS appeal.
The main stumbling block to a deal could be Palace's staunch £40m valuation of the 25-year-old, with Liverpool happy to wait to secure a free transfer in 2026, meaning Palace could slash that demand before the end of August.
