Magpies on duty: How every Newcastle United player fared for their country image

The September international break saw a large contingent of Newcastle United players represent their countries in World Cup qualifiers and friendlies.

While some returned to Tyneside having found form and momentum, others will be hoping for a better showing next time around.

Here is a detailed look at how every Newcastle player fared on international duty.

England

  • Anthony Gordon played a key role for England, featuring for a total of 91 minutes across the 2-0 win against Andorra and the 5-0 victory over Serbia. The winger was a constant threat with his dynamic play and was unlucky not to score his first senior goal.

  • Tino Livramento made his senior England debut against Andorra, coming on as a late substitute. He then started and played the full 90 minutes in the 5-0 win over Serbia, where he was praised for his composed performance and effective use of the ball.

  • Dan Burn also featured, starting in central defence for England's 2-0 win over Andorra. His performance was solid and reliable, with a passing accuracy of 95% and four successful tackles.

  • Lewis Hall was a standout performer for the England U21s. In their 4-1 victory over Austria, he delivered a "masterclass" performance from left-back, providing two assists and showcasing his quality.

  • Lewis Miley continued his promising development with the England U21s. The young midfielder put in a solid performance, playing 76 minutes in a 2-0 win over Kazakhstan.

Italy

  • Sandro Tonali returned to the Italy squad with a bang. He was instrumental in both of Italy's wins, playing a total of 150 minutes across the two matches. In a 5-0 victory over Estonia, he had a 91% passing accuracy and made five key passes, and then scored a dramatic injury-time winner in a thrilling 5-4 win against Israel, confirming his return to top form.

Germany

  • Nick Woltemade featured for Germany, starting in both of their matches, a shock 2-0 defeat to Slovakia and a 3-1 win against Northern Ireland. He played a total of 106 minutes, providing an assist in the second game. However, his overall performance drew some criticism from the German media.

Brazil

  • Bruno Guimarães was a star performer for Brazil, playing the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 win against Chile. He scored a goal and provided an assist, earning rave reviews for his complete performance in midfield.

Sweden

  •  Anthony Elanga scored in a 2-2 draw with Slovenia but was part of a 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.

  • Emil Krafth had a difficult international break with Sweden. He was an unused substitute in a 2-2 draw with Slovenia and came off the bench for 91 minutes in a 2-0 loss to Kosovo.

Other Nations

  • Yoane Wissa was in fine form for DR Congo. He scored and assisted in a 4-1 win over South Sudan and then scored again in a 2-2 draw with Senegal, showcasing his excellent goal-scoring form.

  • Will Osula received his first senior call-up for Denmark but was an unused substitute in his country's matches against Scotland and Greece.
