Luis Enrique reveals reason why PSG want to sell Gianluigi Donnarumma image

PSG are gearing up for a major exit before the end of August as No.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma looks set to move on.

The 26-year-old was vital to Luis Enrique's side last season, as the Parisians sealed a first-ever UEFA Champions League title and landed the Italian a spot amongst the 2025 Ballon d'Or nominees.

However, this summer has seen a major twist, with PSG splashing €40m [£35m] on the capture of Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier - and Donnarumma is now ready to leave.

The move for Chevalier, alongside a lack of progress on contract renewal talks with Donnarumma, have forced a change of stance from PSG.

With the former AC Milan stopper out of contract next summer, PSG are fighting to avoid a free transfer exit, and the situation looks set to end in a messy exit.

Luis Enrique has taken the bold step of omitting Donnarumma from PSG's UEFA Super Cup final squad to face Tottenham tonight with Manchester City the rumoured frontrunners to sign him.

However, the return of James Trafford and Ederson's lack of interest in moving to Saudi Arabia, could also present a stumbling block.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also shown a fleeting interest, amid doubts over both Andre Onana and Robert Sanchez, but the former cannot offer European football this season.

Luis Enrique explains PSG's Donnarumma exit decision

Luis Enrique has developed a reputation for his forthright approach to answering media questions and he was clear over why Donnarumma is likely to leave.

"I'm supported by my club and we are trying to find the best solution, It's 100% my decision," as per BBC Sport.

"It's a difficult decision. I only have praise for Donnarumma. He's one of the best goalkeepers out there and an even better man.

"But we're looking for a different profile. It's very difficult to take these types of decisions."

Donnarumma has outlined his hope to 'look the PSG fans in the eye one more time' before moving on but that remains unclear at this stage.

The Premier League and Ligue 1 transfer windows both close on September 1 and PSG kick off their title defence at Nantes on August 17 before a home clash with Angers five days later.
