Real Madrid secured a battling 2-1 win over Marseille to kickstart their UEFA Champions League campaign.
Two penalties from Kylian Mbappe secured the win for Xabi Alonso on his UCL debut as Los Blancos boss, but his side were forced to dig deep against their Ligue 1 opponents.
Trent Alexander-Arnold's early injury was a setback for Alonso and the hosts were forced to play the final 20 minutes with ten men after his replacement Dani Carvajal was sent off for a headbutt.
Mbappe's double set a new benchmark for the France international as he finally reached 50 club goals following his arrival from PSG in 2024.
50 goals for Real Madrid in 64 matches across all competitions is a fine accolade, and as per Opta, he's the fastest player to do so for the Spanish giants since Cristiano Ronaldo, who achieved it in 54 games in November 2010.
However, it was not the only record broken on the night by Real Madrid with football statistician 'MrChip' confirming they have now received more penalties in Champions League history than any other side.

The figures relate to penalties award in the main phase of the competition - not in qualifier games or penalty shootouts - with Los Blancos now onto 63.

Mbappe's first penalty brought them level on 62 with Bayern Munich but they now hold the record outright.
Ronaldo is the joint-highest for penalties scored in the UCL, alongside Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski on 19, with Mbappe now up to 10.
